Let your Curiosity & Passion Lead you.
Entrepreneurship is a journey less traveled and laced with speed bumps is an understatement.
So, it helps if what you intend to pursue is something you are passionate about.
“Love what you do and Do what you Love”.
What personally works for me is to take each day as it comes. If today was more satisfying than yesterday, I am good. Everything else is background noise.
Let's look at Pinterest, for example. Ben Silbermann, Evan Sharp, and Paul Sciarra co-founded Pinterest in March 2010. Ben Silbermann was a childhood collector, collecting everything from Stamps, books, insects, and anything and everything he could get his hands on. Collecting was a way of self-expression for him. He joined hands with his childhood friend, Evan Sharp, to mix his passion for collection with technology, and sooner than later, Pinterest was born. A portal to share your passion and common interests with the World.
Another awesome example is The Honest Company. Its founder is Jessica Alba. You know her as a Successful actress; now it's time to get to know her as a successful entrepreneur. As a child, she frequently visited hospitals due to various sicknesses, and all she wished was to be a normal kid. So when she became a mother, she got an allergic reaction to one of the products she used for her baby. That was a scary moment for her: She said, and I quote: “I am bringing a baby to the world. What if she gets sick because of bad chemicals used in baby products”. Her Why is Greater than herself and above profits and only making money. She started The Honest Company making products that are 100% safe for babies.
So, with that being said, Problems are the roots of all Startups you see, love, and experience.
Rather than avoiding problems, it's about time you start embracing them.
Don’t Deal with it. Solve it!
Imagination is Key. As Paul Graham puts it: “Live in the Future than build what's Missing”.
I built a CrowdSourcing Startup in 2013; the idea was already being implemented in London, which I had very well experienced while studying for my MBA.
The innovation in Internet technology, connectivity, banking, and the public sector that we are seeing in India today, we witnessed that innovation in action from 2009 to 2011 in the UK.
That being said, I would like to add a Bonus point: Travel and Explore.
Explore areas worldwide that have pioneered the idea you want to bring to your country or region to see it in action. It will also validate your assumption more than staying in the same geography.
Earn 25% commission when your network purchase Uplyrn courses or subscribe to our annual membership. It’s the best thing ever. Next to learning, of course.
You are the master of your destiny, and there won't be anybody other than you that can 100% see your vision. Bring it to reality and tell the haters, “I told you so”. It's immensely gratifying; I know that from experience. ;)
Only Validating your idea in the Real world will help you determine whether or not your idea is viable.
Remember, Investors had turned AirBnB down, and look at what it is now ($78.94B).
This shows how much VCs know compared to what the market tells us.
Let the market tell you what you need to know instead of VCs telling you what they think they know.
You would never know everything you need to know at the onset. Ideas mature, and your understanding matures.
The more you work towards testing and validating your idea in the real world, the more viable your idea becomes.
There is no such thing as a perfect solution. Solutions mature along with the ever-evolving market needs; otherwise, there wouldn’t be new Android versions and iPhones being released in the market.
You might change course several times while on your way to validating your assumptions, and that's completely fine; there’s a startup term for that, Pivoting.
In simpler terms, adjust your idea to be more in tune with the market needs.
Last, but not the least, your vibe attracts your tribe.
Go to local startup events, participate in online Startup summits, network with like-minded people, and hang out in the groups you think your most like-minded contemporaries hang out with.
Learn the lingo, participate in the conversation, and start contributing in the little way possible.
The best way to go about this journey would be to start documenting your journey.
Start a Youtube channel, Podcast, etc., and share your journey with the world to see.
So what are you waiting for? Go out there and start reaching out.
No limitations; Can't be afraid to sweat while learning to play with fire. Oooooooo Punchline.
