When analysing project delays it is often useful to know where the Baseline Critical Path lies.
This article is an extract from the authors book 99 Tricks and Traps for Oracle Primavera P6 PPM Professional and explains how to display the Baseline Critical Path.
Background on the Baseline Critical Path Bar
P6 by default does not display a Baseline Critical bar, but once you have set a Baseline you will find there are many more fields available in the columns form, including the BL Total Float, which may be used to draw a Baseline Critical bar.
How draw a Baseline Critical bar
Create but do not apply a Baseline Critical Filter, this will be used later.
Create a Baseline Critical bar as per the picture on the right. It should be in the same position, which is set in the Bar Style tab, but below it in the Bars form, so it will be drawn over the top of the Baseline bar.
The Baseline Critical bar will be drawn over the Baseline bar.
NOTE: If you make the filter and layout Global, then any user may use the layout to display the Baseline Critical bar.
