It’s easy to lose track of opportunities.
I planted my mixed variety pepper patch this year, and didn't keep good records. Started with Bells and Pablanos on one end, and progressed in heat to Ghost and Scorpion on the other.
But something got mixed up in the middle. I for sure planted Scotch Bonnets, but now I have these other little orange ones that someone told me were Scotches, but are obviously different and not quite as hot…
Fortunately, they’ll both make hot sauce. But in a business, when you have multiple solutions, it can be easy to forget what offer you’re cultivating.
Offer a spicy (risky) solution to someone who is risk averse, and they may very well run in the other direction, cussing you the whole time.
Likewise, offer a tame, mild solution to someone who is looking to really get out there and differentiate – be on the cutting edge – and you’ll just be a bland, blend in with the crowd provider, easy to pass up.
Know your solutions, know your clients.
(And keep good records.)
