Do you have any resistance to selling?

If you have resistance to selling, it's not your fault. Let's face it…there is a stigma to sales in our culture. When you go out in business and put on your sales hat and you have resistance to sales, it's going to act as a hurdle that's going to stand in the way of you achieving your sales potential.

Think of it like this. You and I are in a hundred yard dash race, except I’m running straight from the starting line to the finish line and you have to jump over hurdles. If we both ran the same speed, I would win the race every time.

If we flipped the situation and now I'm jumping over the hurdles, and you're running straight from the start line to the finish line, you would beat me every time.

If you have resistances to sales, it's a mindset that's kind of like putting hurdles in front of yourself.

Imagine if you could let go of resistance to sales and break through that.

Autosuggestion

I'm going to attempt to give you the exact information on how to do that right now.

I learned this concept from Napoleon Hill, it's called autosuggestion. Autosuggestion is where you say something yourself, out loud or to yourself, over and over and over and over and over again.

When I ask people, "What do you think of when you think of a sales person?"

If they have resistance to selling it's usually something like this:

  • Arm twisting
  • High pressure
  • Manipulation
  • Used car sales
  • Liar
  • Slick
  • Fast talker

If you make sales mean that, you're likely going to resist it for, unfortunately, the rest of your life.

Change begins in language. Here’s your affirmation:

"Selling equals service. Sell from honesty, integrity, and compassion. Selling is about leading, selling is about moving people to action."

Say it again, "Selling equals service. Sell from honesty, integrity, and compassion. Selling is about leading, selling is about moving people to action."

My encouragement for you is to say that affirmation out loud or to yourself, ten times a day, for the next 30 days. Notice what happens to your mindset about sales. Likely you will begin to let go of resistance, and embrace sales.
